Random Event Cards Vignettes - Fuzzies with Bloody Big Guns!

Captured guns take aim at the Imperial invaders - lovely Cannon Fodder Miniatures figures and gun.

Here is a chance to put up another unit/vignette from the Random Event Cards Deck and phase of the game turn.

There are two cards in the deck that specify that Hostiles appear with captured Egyptian Krupp guns and unfortunate captive gunners.  They are all under the command of a particularly mean and whip wielding overseer intent on wreaking havoc upon the British ranks as often as as fiercely as he can!

The look of pain on the Egyptian gunner on the left can be felt from here!

These figures are from the very talented Greg Blake who sculpted them I believe when he was still teaching up in Darwin in the Northern Territory.  I am unsure whether they are still available and if they are, they would probably be on the books of Gerry Webb at Castaway Arts.  Greg now resides in Canberra and puts on the best Demonstration games at CANCON every year - hope you are well mate!

I know there are several sets of these available now through Perry Miniatures etc. however for me this is the absolute best of the lot.

Nasty bugger!

  1. Another really great job! I'm going to have to start playing a game with event cards so that I can use this idea!!

    1. Thanks Darell - the cards are a great idea and the fact that they have the choice of an actual event or the arrival of more Mahdists gives enough variety to add some spice. The other added advantage as the Umpire controlling the Mahdist forces is the ability to " conjure" an event if he feels the game is going down a direction which is ideal for the players e.g the mission wil be completed in half the turns, the garrison is having no opposition whilst all the action is at the other end of the table etc.

  2. That's a nice little vignette. Being whipped gives no guarantee of accuracy, I guess! I don't recall Mahdist guns being that effective in any game, beyond adding a note of unease to the Imperial players' minds. "One of these days they *might* prove effective - is this that game?" ;)

    1. Probably at the most in inopportune moment as well AJ.

    2. Undoubtedly! It's up there with the moment when, with a screaming, thousands-strong band of Mahdist warriors bearing down on the square at a rate of knots, your Gatling jams on the first round.

    3. Been down that path before AJ ...and then managed to clear the problem only to have it jam again immediately!

  3. Any news on when these are going to be available as a pdf? It's getting difficult to go through all the posts looking for the rules bits. ;)

  4. Hi Nick,

Looking like May as it has been quite hectic this year with all the bits and pieces of a busy life at home and work getting in the way of wargaming! Have some time off soon so will hopefully get the majority of it crunched out then. Cheers
