Now on Sale - The Sands of Sudan

"Hold the square boys, the rules are on the way!"

Well it has finally happened and I do need to let you know that I am more than a little chuffed!

The rules, a project that I have been working on for quite some time and one which was inspired from my very early days of reading the articles from Peter Gilder and seeing the wonderful photographs of his fantastic desert battles in Wargames World and Illustrated.

The rules in all their full colour glory.

More dramas than a barrel of monkeys ...a deck of Random Events!
So what do you get for your AUD40.00 (plus the postage)?

The rules are a gloss laminated cover plus 44 pages of rules with all the details you need to play the battles from the WHC brought together for the first time.  The rules contain organisation, basing, movement, fire and melee mechanics, troop roster sheets, campaign rosters and OOB from the Wargames Holiday Centre's olden days as well as some recommended books, sites and figure manufacturers in a range of scales.

These are designed in an oversize format and also contain six blank cards so that your own gaming group can tailor
events and circumstances to suit your own collections and gaming dispositions.

Laminated four page Quick Reference sheet slips into the centre of the rules and contains all you need for playing
the game with minimal reference to the rules - at least after a while!

HOW TO ORDER:

The rules are on sale at the moment for AUD40.00 plus AUD10.00 postage WORLDWIDE.

I have woefully under-estimated the postage costs (by 100% believe it or not) however the AUD10.00 postage rate will remain until the end of NOVEMBER 2014.

After that date it will need to increase to AUD16.00.  I am just so keen to get the rules out that a slight postage loss is just one of those things.  We wargamers would rather buy figures than pay silly prices for world postage.

Simply email me at carlopagano@bigpond.com

I will then send you a PayPal invoice and the rules will be shipped within two working days of receipt of payment.

This particular fellow is well out in front of the mob as he races to the post office to pick up his copy!!
Let me also thank the chaps who have already ordered rules from me.  Your faith, words of support and encouragement have been such a wonderful fillip for this old gamer.  Gents I have much pleasure in saying that your rules are in the mail as I type.

Thank you so much.

  2. Hi Carlo,

Those look beautifully produced. I never got to play at the old WHC, but I remember the stunning looking Sudan games from the Wargames Holiday magazine. First time I can remember seeing 28mm figures in big elements, two ranks deep. I particularly recall the sailors in their straw boaters.

A mate is basing a 10mm Sudan army at the moment, so I may even get to try the rules out!

    Best, Simon

    1. Thanks Simon - they took my interest in those early days for exactly the same reason. I think I drooled over those pictures plus the wonderful big Napoleonic battles in those wonderful British wargaming mags. Look forward to seeing your games and your rules will be in the mail Monday mate!

  6. Fantastic to see Carlo and also another great one for the Australian Wargamer having a locally written and printed rule set. I can not wait to get my hands on a copy, grab a nice cup of tea plus maybe a sweet piece of cake whilst reading your rules.

    All the best

  10. Hi. These look great. I remember the piccies of Gilders in the mags but never got to play the game there. My friend and I run Legendary Wargames and offer customers the chance to play this as a day or weekend game in 28mm on a scale similar to the old WHC. Now with these rules we can offer them the full original experience. Will be ordering one or more sets. Well done for reviving them. And your own piccies look great too. Cheers.

What would be the best month in the UK to get the most shows in or are they generally peppered all over the calendar mate?

  22. hello our club purchased these rules and enjoy playing them but we cant quiet work out , the flank attack rules , if the fuzzies hit a british line in the flank , only two figures can turn to face , which also means only two of the fuzzies can fight in the first round , is that right ??

    1. Hi and apologies for taking so long to see this query. Yes you are correct - two v two in the first round so if it's infantry v Mahdist foot probably of little consequence other than the Imperial players would probably not have been able to fire upon them thus making it easier for the MAhdists to win the combat and melee a second turn and then getting to fight with double the number of figures than the Imperial player. Remember if they are in combat and the mahdists "win" that is cause more casualties than their opponents, it is impossible for them not to stick and melee again next turn.

If you have any further questions feel free to email me at : carlopagano@bigpond.com
